week 14: Conclusion

Conclusion

This part only explain as simple for this project because this is early stage of "simulation automatic number plate recognition using matlab for toll payment"

  • With the full result of analysis, this project can implement into toll payment.
  • Still in research finding to more understand on algorithm and matlab program.
  • Hoping that this project will give benefit to community and also enforcement.
  • Hoping that can gain more on Matlab and ANPR system.

week 11: Benefit and Contribution

The Benefit and Contribution of ANPR System

This project has many benefits that can be apply into our community. These are the several benefits that has related with the project.

  •                         Traffic Enforcement.
-      Automatic number plate recognition is an advantage in several areas of traffic enforcement and
can be place in an areas where speeding is common problem.
  •                        Law Enforcement.

-          The system can be mounted on a patrol car to record plates at passing car. This information can be compared with the law enforcement data base for vehicles associated with the crime.
  •                    Vehicles Access.

-          Automatic number plate recognition is also useful for vehicles access. On toll roads, these systems can be used to allow cars to pass through toll gates without stopping, where the system will record the number plate. In fact, the system can be upgrade example like the user can pay the toll fees with online payment after system send the bill by email.

week 10: The Presentation Day

The Presentation Day

This week is will be the busy week for student who taken Final Year Project 1 (FYP 1) S2'2012. Every student will present their project to 2 assessor.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

week 9: Problem Statement

 Problem Statement

In this project, the main problem is to design and develop an automatic number plate recognition system for the application in a toll payment. In meantime, the system is not yet implemented into toll booth and usually need human supervision. With this project, the vehicles number plate will be automatically captured and the system will do all the images preprocessing method and the output will display using GUI.

Another side problem is to upgrade, improve and rewrite the algorithms to make sure it is convenient with present technology. On the other hand, there are plenty of variety number plates like “PERODUA 2025”,“ PROTON 223” and “PUTRAJAYA 6606” on road, it is challenge to the system to extract the images because the normal standard license plate number already has its own standard size and pattern.

Week 8: The Process

The Process of Image Processing

This is the process of image processing. It shows how the system works from start to finish.

Week 7: Block Diagram

The General Proposed of ANPR System

Description of Block Diagram;

The ANPR system will obtain the input which it is image from a digital camera that will place at toll booth. After obtaining the image which contain number plate vehicle, the next step is preprocessing. Preprocessing step is the first step in number plate recognition and it consist the following major stages which is binarization and noise removal. Binarization is initially process to improve the quality and prepare it to next stage of the system. Noise removal is the step to remove the noise of the image to get better, clear and sharpness of images. Next, number plate localization is the steps to localize the number plate. Character segmentation will subdiving an image into constituent parts or isolating certain aspects of an images. If the segmentation fails, a character can be improperly divided into two pieces or two characters can be improperly merged together. Character recognition will scan the image by allowing the system automatically recognize and extract text content from number plate images. Final stage is the output of images that has been through all of process. The output will come out with ASCII character. However, this project using MATLAB GUI so the output will be display using GUI.

Week 6: Objectives

Objectives of Project

These are the objectives for this project:
  • Develop a system for the purpose of toll payment.
  • To develop a program using MATLAB and implement the character recognition.
  • To enhance the existing technique or algorithms.

Week 5: The Summary of Project

Automatic Number Plate Recognition Technology

It is technical method of artificial vision (OCR) that allows the recognition of number plates in images of vehicles.

Generally, the ANPR technology can be bought in two modalities:
  • The ANPR engine: can recognize the number plate directly from the images stored in a hard disk.
  • The ANPR equipment (Hardware Recognition engine): all the hardware necessary to capture the images of the vehicles and to recognize the number plate and offer the maximum reliability.

How does ANPR system works:

The ANPR process is divided into three steps.
  • Detection of the vehicle: The first step is to take an image of the vehicle at the right time.
  • Capture of the images: Once the vehicle is detected, the following step is the capture of the vehicle.
  • Number plate recognition process: Each ANPR manufacturer has developed its own recognition algorithms.

Conclusion, the ANPR technology is a good system to implement in any suitable system although it has advantages and disadvantages.

Week 1: Brainstorming

Brainstorming for Final Year Project 1

This week is the first week to registers subject for Final Year Project 1 (FYP1). After that, all students who taken this subject must to find a supervisor. A supervisor will monitoring and in charge on the whole of project.

The main focus of this week is to brainstorming for ideas. My supervisor is open in the selection of project ideas. As the beginning of brainstorming, I will to focusing on what type of final output the project would be. After done with searching and  research, several topics of project have been selected, then discussions with supervisor to select the best idea for project.

This is several topics of project that I choosen:

  • Landslide detection using wireless network sensor
  • Automatic Number Plate Car Parking
  • Automatic Number Plate Recognition For Toll Payment
